Would you like The Mets to Shoot Now or Wait till ’10?

Victor Martinez. Roy Halladay. Carl Crawford. Scott Kazmir.

Jenry Meija. Ike Davis. Brad Holt. John Niese. Fernando Martinez. Wilmer Flores.

The Mets have an interesting dillema today. They’re close enough to make a run for the Wild Card, but too far back to make a run for the division (unless the Phils pull an ’07-’08 Mets). They’ve got potentially 4 All-Star caliber players coming back in August, but none of them are likely to be at 100%.

And they’ve got a GM with a very uncertain status.

What is also interesting is the Mets bereft farm is showing signs of life. John Neise, depite giving up 4 runs in the Mets 4-2 loss yesterday, has made strides this year, adding a new cutter to his repertoire. Several of the Mets top prospects have made strides. It’s possible that most of them will have an impact in 2010, and in the case of Holt and Davis, an outside chance of making the September roster.

And there are some enticing options possibly available right now.

With that said, I am hoping for a quiet deadline for the Mets today. If Omar pulls off a minor deal, that’s great. However, this season reminds me of 2004 too much, where the Mets made a run before the deadline to push Duquette, who knew his job status was tenuous at best, to make 2 bad deals on Black Friday which the Mets still feel the ramifications of.

Perhaps the Mets may miss out on Roy Halladay or Victor Martinez, but every offseason there is always an enexpected group of stars dealt. Better to save the bullets in the offseason. The Mets prospects will seem better with new reports, teams can take their times on deals, and the Mets GM position will be more stable. Even if Omar stays, the fact he was not fired will make it less likely he’ll make a rash decision in an offseason deal.

Sometimes the best move to make is no move. With the chances of the Mets making the postseason slim, this year might be the best time to employ that strategy. Or else the bill will be quite painful indeed.

Mets Silence Rockies in First Game of Double Header, 7-0 (7/30/09)

Today’s afternoon game, part of a day-night double header, was big. How big, you ask?

It's 5 in a row, big!

It's 5 wins in a row, big!

Santana was back to his old self, throwing 7 scoreless innings. The bullpen gave up no runs ( and yes, that was Tim Redding pitching!). And after a 5-run 2nd inning, the Mets weren’t done – they tacked on 2 more runs in the 5th and 7th.

The boys are doing something right, having managed to claw themselves within 5.5 games in the Wild Card race. Maybe it’s thanks to the fact that they’re still not shaving until they reach.500?

Leave it to men...only they can score when they don't shave!

Leave it to men...only they can score when they don't shave!

Ladies and gentlemen….Meet the Mets!! Let’s see what they’ve got in store for us tonight!

There is still hope

The Great Get Better: Cliff Lee to the Phillies

According to Ken Rosenthal, Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco are now members of the NL East leading Phillies for Class A right-hander Jason Knapp, Class AAA right-hander Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson.

Medical records will be checked before finalization of deal. This gives the Phils a dreaded 2 man punch in Lee and Hamels that will be tough to beat come playoff time for any team.

Pelfrey Comes Up Big, Mets win 4-0

New+York+Mets+v+Cincinnati+Reds+EyuDvHhte-Rl

It’s a lot nicer to be on the other side of a shutout. Mike Pelfrey had his 2nd consecutive good performance and helped lead the Mets to a big 4-0 victory. Big Pelf gave up 7 hits in 6 1/3 innings while striking out 5 and walking 3. Pelf had very good velocity on his fastball tonight, occassionaly hitting 97 mph on the gun which was great to see. He got out of a few bases loaded jams, getting Clint Barmes to pop out to Luis Castillo in the 4th and fly out to Francoeur in the 6th. Hopefully Pelf can continue his recent success and help the Mets make a big playoff push.

SPORTS BBN-REDS-METS 1 ND

On the offensive side, Francoeur continued to hit the ball well by knocking Murphy in with a base hit in the 2nd inning. Castillo also had another good day reaching base twice and scoring a run while Murphy and Wright had 2 hits each. Beating Marquis is not an easy task as Marquis is tied for the major league lead in wins, so it was good to see the Mets continue to swing the bats well. Marquis went 6 innings and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits keeping him at 12 wins for the year. If Frenchy can continue to drive in runs and Murphy can get some hits like he did today then the Mets should be able to stay in contention and hopefully make a big run when they get some of the big guys back. A trade for a bat would help as well so hopefully Omar can get something done even if it’s nothing major.

Tomorrow the Mets try to take 3 in a row from the Rockies with Johan Santana taking on Jason Hammel at 7:10.

Bill Evans’ “Get to the Game” Forecast – Week of July 27th

New York’s favorite weatherman, Bill Evans from WABC, has once again provided us with his “Kiner’s Korner -Get to the Game” forecast! If you plan on attending a game this week at Citifield, be sure to read Bill’s forecast before you go!
billevans4
Wow!!!! Real Deal Red Hot Baseball Weather is On the Way!!!!!!

The Hot Dogs will be Hotter Alright! We are looking at very humid, sticky, warm, muggy (get the idea yet???) even hot weather as we go through the week.
Take your appendix out and replace it with central air! You will need to drink lots of water or your favorite sports drink – not too many beers or caffeine, as that will dehydrate you at the game. Wear loose fitting, light colored clothing, hats and sunscreen for the afternoon games.

The weather today through Sunday is sunny, warm and muggy, with a thunderstorm possible each afternoon. The real threat will be tomorrow (Wednesday) when we could get some flooding tropical rain. Take your rain gear to the game!

Highs will be in the upper 80s with reel feels in the mid-90s. Night time game time temps will be starting around 85 with high humidity. The temps will drop off into the upper 70s during the game, but the humidity will remain.

Have fun, be safe and stay cool and dry!

Don’t Look Now….

Well, being in first the last 3 years didn’t work, let’s try being way behind this time and see how that goes.

Avert your eyes away from the dancing fools for a moment and you’ll realize that the team is just six and a half games in back of the wild card with 2 months to play. Hats off to the “double play machine” who turned back the clock and did what he does best… pinch hit grand slams.

Enjoy Ryan Church guys

Reyes & Putz have both said they’re about a week away, Wagner is about a week away… Delgado might be here in 10 days or so. Who knows.. the next chapter in this book might be the best one. If we somehow pull this one off, the entire fan base will have to send Atlanta a Thank You Card for gift wrapping Jeff Francoeur for us. What were they thinking?

By the way, Omar’s statement after the fact yesterday was really hard to watch. It’s hard to believe that the two guys who spoke are running an organization worth a billion dollars. It’s all about who you know isn’t it? I felt sorry for Adam Rubin seeing him on SNY later in the evening. The guy seems really scared he might be removed from his big break position. Omar is really a jerk for doing what he did.

Holy hell has broken loose at Citi Field… hide the kids!

You can't separate them

You’ve got to be fucking kidding me Omar.  Ladies and gents, this front office has officially joined hands with their Billy Martin/ Boss AL ancestors and pranced off into a place where books are written and stories are born.

I read about this stuff today while working and wanted to reserve judgment until I actually saw the clip.  People on ESPN and WFAN were trying to insinuate that Jeff forced Omar to make a fool of himself and I wanted to look at his body language and eyes before putting down my own thoughts.

Here it is to reacquaint yourself.

http://web.sny.tv/media/player/mp_tpl.jsp?w=mms%3A//a1503.v222062.c22206.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1503/22206/v0001/mlb.download.akamai.com/22206/2009/daily/07/072709_nym_omarpresser_800.wmv.wmv&type=v_free&vid=8852&_mp=1

Verdict:  By Omar’s body language, he’s telling me he was forced to fire Tony and was angry at Adam Rubin instead of being angry at the man who actually committed the indiscretions.  It’s like cursing the step you stubbed your toe on.  What idiot walked into the step to begin with?

Yo Adam! Look out for Tony Two Toes! He's looking fo ya'

What I watched was a premeditated attack on a sportswriter in retaliation for knocking off one of his buddies.  Hey Jeff & Omar… this isn’t the fucking mafia you stupid fools.   The on-field team wouldn’t run over a catcher if Jessica Alba was catching, but Omar will run over a sportswriter for picking on a “teammate”.

How insane is it that Omar had time to plan FOR A SECOND PRESS CONFRENCE IN A ROW and came up with this brilliant bundle of words?  For god sake hire the man a writer if he can read English and fine him for every word of his own he utters.  What the hell was he thinking?   How do you say that out loud???   If Omar thinks a woman has a nice ass, does he go up to her and ask to grab it?  His verbal filter is pushed so far up his ass it’s coming out his ears.

Also, where is his grubby little sidekick during all this?  He needs to put on his diaper and step up to take responsibility over the mess he’s 100% involved in.  Jeff Wilpon… you do speak don’t you?

A fly on the wall in Citifield just e-mailed me this conversation between Fred & Jeff:

The Mets family in happier times

Fred:  Jeffery, what is going on here?

Jeff: Dad-dy, the mean Puerto Rican man got sent home by the other mean Puerto Rican man.

Fred:  Did Omar fire Tony?

Jeff: It was awful Dad-dy!  The mean man had his shirt off and the other man was saying all these mean things I didn’t understand.

Fred: In Spanish?

Jeff: It was like when our housekeepers fight.

Fred: That’s Spanish son. *takes Jeffy into his arms and give him his teddy* There There Jeffy, it’s ok…

Jeff: But Dad-dy it was so scary!  And… and …. The one guy said he wanted me to talk to the bad men with the cameras…

Fred:   I told you never talk to them!

Jeff: I didn’t! I didn’t! I Promise Dad-dy!

Fred: Good son… I know you didn’t

Jeff: Dad-dy will it be ok?  The bad men with the cameras said all sorts of bad things about me and your driver has been giving me dirty looks.

Fred:   Son, he’s the manager.  Please don’t say that to anyone.

Jeff: Dad-dy, is he the same nice man from the rootoonda?

Fred:   Son.. it’s called a RoTUNDA and no, that man died a long time ago

Jeff: Did the mean Puerto Rican Man kill him?

Fred: Tony didn’t kill Jackie Robinson, Jeffrey.  Now get ready for bed.

Jeff: Dad-dy will you read me a story first?

Fred: Sure son, as soon as I make a phone call to your Uncle Mikey on the radio.  I’ve got to do some grown up things.

Jeff: You’re the best Dad-dy.

Fred: Sweet dreams my little Dodger!

Fred is going to be doing damage control on WFAN in the next week with the “one ton ego”, mark my words.  He HAS to because his investment is a total and complete joke from the neck up.

Since the team is worth more than some small countries, maybe it’s time to act like a country and even get a seat in the UN. No wait…. Even better, let’s have a space program so we can send half the roster to Mars.

As far as Omar… I don’t know what to think.  I don’t hate his moves as GM, but his direct contact with the media must end today.  Over. Done.  Seeya!  Get a press secretary like our coked up ex President and go from there.  MLB teams shouldn’t need a press secretary, but there is no other way to keep Omar around and this team is covered like CNN covers the White House so what the hell right?

This was only funny because it went with winning

Man, I’d love a 78’ Yankee ending to this year so when the book comes out people think this is all cool.   Right now, it’s embarrassing to be a Mets fan.

Tony Bernazard Fired – The Wrong Way

Omar Minaya just accused Adam Rubin of spreading the stories about Tony Bernazard cause he wanted a position in player development.

Omar just pulled a Plaxico and shot himself in the foot.

In what can only be described as surreal, Omar Minaya and Daily News Reporter Adam Rubin had a verbal spar in the middle of the press conference. Rubin called Omar Dispicable and I can’t say I blame him. More on this story tonight.

You're Dithpicable!

Tony Bernazard Fired – The Right Way

According to the NY Post’s Joel Sherman, Omar Minaya will announce at a 3:30 Press Conference that Tony Bernazard has been fired. It will be the most public firing of a VP of Player Personnel in the History of Professional Sports.

I have to give the Mets credit for doing this in what I would consider the right way. They did not bow to public pressure from the fans and media, but took the time to make a decision by checking all the stats. As much as I respect many of the media, especially Adam Rubin who has been on top of this from the start, there are always multiple sides of the story.

This does not excuse Omar or the Wilpons for allowing Bernazard to act in an unprofessional way this long, and for the neglect of the farm system. However, once a franchise shows that they are under the media or fan’s whim, it’s over.

Now, let’s put a bow on this story, tomorrow we’ll see endless articles how the Mets took too long to fire this guy, and move on to the deadline.

CONGRATS HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES: SPEAKING OF WHICH, MEX YOU ARE KILLING ME!!!!

keith1Congrats to two guys that I actually have met for an autograph as a kid – Jim Rice and Rickey Henderson for making the Hall of Fame. Both these men were great players, different yet the same in many ways. Henderson was a first ballot, while Rice (because he didn’t kiss the ass of the writers) had to wait a while. Speaking of borderline HOF’s I have to post this – Keith Hernandez, like Tom Seaver, is ruining his image as a ballplayer for me as I listen to him announce. Enough is enough he is, hands down, the biggest egomaniac the announcing world has ever seen.

I can handle his “level swing” approach to hitting a baseball that is coheneasily becoming a college drinking game. He also has his mexisms (see http://brooklynmetfan.com/) because he f**ks up more than Hogan’s Goat (if you know what this means, I applaud you). That said, he talks down to the listeners and has managed to bring down the game of Gary (one of the better announcers around) in the process. Keith has many of the attributes of Tom Seaver, which cracks me up. Both guys were great players, but forget that announcing is a craft itself, little of which has to do with ever playing the game (some of the better astronomers have never gone into space). Keith continues to remind us that he played baseball, which is a total pain in the ass. I listened to Kiner as a kid and barely knew that he played, let alone that he was one of the greatest hitters of all time. Listen to Mex for 12 seconds and you know ALL of what he did. If you watch Seaver in the booth, watch closely as he will ignore Cohen, whose domain it really IS, while only looking at Darling and Hernandez, yet when they need help regarding a stat (or how to score a damn play), they lean on Cohen. Just once I would love to hear a guy like Gary say “you played thousands of game, you tell me”!

I listened to Hernandez today, in a condescending voice (you know, grace_hofthe “boys and girls” talk that he does, even though New York fans are among the most knowledgeable) tell us all not to do things like steroids that are against the law, yet hambone did coke and snitched on Stargell et al. in the 1980s (why leave out that detail). He also talked about never quitting on a game, yet he was drinking beer and making travel plans in the 6th game of the ’86 series while his team was battling their asses off on the field in perhaps the greatest comeback in world series history. This bitterness that I have, and I apologize as a Mets’ fan for this, makes me happy (in a perverted way) that he is not in the HOF or the all defense team- he would be friggin’ unbearable if so. Keith, my boy (and I mean boy) take a page from the Mark Grace book, you can listen to him (and enjoy the game, even as a visitor), never even knowing if he played MLB baseball, let alone had the most hits in the 1990s- a guy that idolized you.

Omar Sat and Waited & Now it’s Too Late

omarAs I sit here and watch back ups for the back ups it’s just starting to sink in that this season is a wash. The sadness is quickly switched to anger as I think that Omar (who still could get dumped over this and Tony B issues) should have pulled the trigger on a move for offensive help. On July 3rd the Mets were two games under .500, but only 3 games out. That false sense of security spelled doom for our team, and as I retrospectively look at things I tend to blame Omar for not doing “something”. The Phillies got hot, the Mets dipped and the rest is history. This same sense of security may bite the Phils in the ass if they don’t move for a starter since they have enough to win the east, but not enough to advance in the playoffs. But then again what the hell do I know, I thought from day one that the Ibanez move was crazy!

Maine Break in Flushing?

Sorry for the bad plumbing joke. Trying to find humor in recent weeks with the Mets has been like trying to finding a Michael Jackson fan who can admit there was a child molestation trial.

According to Kaitlin Strang and David Lennon of Newsday, John Maine is about to be assosciated with the three most dreaded words in sports. No, not “You’ve Been Traded,” or “Your Wife’s here” or even “Fill this Cup.”

Dr. James. Andrews.

Apparently after Maine’s 60 pitch session to Delgado and Reyes the other day he experienced some more discomfort in his rehabbing shoulder where he had surgery on his pinched nerve.

“[Tuesday] it felt all right, but the days in between, it’s hard,” Maine said. “It aches a little bit, but what are you going to do? There’s always a chance that you’re not going to go out there and do your best. It’s not too bad pitching; it’s just the days in between.”

Maine said he is so anxious to return to the big club, he’d pitch lefthanded if he could.

“Arm injuries happen and I hate it, but it’s just a natural process,” Maine said. “I’m trying to get over it.”

Maine also blamed the natural competitor in himself for perhaps pushing too hard after arthroscopic surgery Sept. 30.

“In the winter I tried coming back faster to be ready for spring, and then it hit. Then at the same time, when I came back from the DL, I tried coming back even faster,” Maine said. “I don’t want to be here. I want to be up there. It’s me. I don’t know when to lay off the gas.”

A trip to Dr. James Andrews doesn’t always mean surgery, but it is never a good sign. John Maine was expected to be counted on as the #3, possibly #2 starter this season. While he has not progressed past being a 5-6 inning pitcher, his potential to become a solid front of the rotation pitcher was evident.

If Maine does go through surgery again, the Mets should not count on him to supply that front rotation help in 2010, in my opinion.

MAINET

It is just yet another in the long line of bad Mets injury news this season. The number may go up to 11 today with Cora and/or Sheffield. We’ll keep you posted. Take a good look at the picture, it may be a while before you see the Maine Man in a Mets uniform.

Now let’s tempt fate all together shall we. On 3. 1. 2. 3!

CAN IT POSSIBLY GET ANY WORSE?

Mark Buehrle throws Perfect Game

Let’s take a break from a letdown season and scandals to marvel in one of the feats that makes us love this game of baseball.

On behalf of KinersKorner.com, and many Mets fans, our congratulations and admirations go out to Mark Buehrle for pitching a Perfect Game vs the Tampa Bay Rays. It is the 2nd no-hitter of his career.

Maybe someday Met fans can celebrate one. But for now, our congrats to the White Sox ace.

Congrats!

….and More Tony

Omar Minaya said in a News Conference before the game that Tony Bernazard is going to be investigated for all the allegations stated below. Plus a new one making the rounds that Tony the Toughy got into a shouting match with K-rod prior to the All-Star Break. When asked by Mike Francessa during Manuel’s weekly show, Jerry asked not to be asked that question.

When Jerry asks not to talk, something is up.

So the fans are up in arms since Omar is doing due diligence. Let me just say while if all is true I hope Tony is fired, that I for one am happy there was not a quick trigger. Once a GM starts making moves based on media or fan reaction, that GM has moved from bad or incompetent to dangerous to the organization. Let’s see how this plays out.

Not like there are any exciting games going on right now.

Oh yeah, injury update. Cora’s out of the lineup, thumb may be reaggravated. Sheffield tried running today, will see how he feels tomorrow. I’m guessing the DL list will be dialed up to 11 by the weekend.

Update: Eddie Coleman is reporting that Tony got into a fight with Johan as well. Wonder if he was a roider?

Tony Tony Tony….

Notes from yesterday:

  • John Lennon errr.. Lannon beat the Mets. This shouldn’t shock anyone. And the flush goes round and round….

Ok, now to the news I really want to talk about… Tony Bernazard. The owners of this team hate being embarrassed, except when it comers to this clown who gets to do whatever he wants at all time. In what another executive called an “All time” story, this maniac took his shirt off and tried to fight the entire Binghamton Mets team. Maybe he was just showing off his man boobs …we’ll never know. Anyhow, this idiot needs to be on the last train to Clarksville yesterday. What exactly does he bring to the table to warrant years worth of bad publicity?

  • Can I have more than 1 one day every 25 years where I’m not embarrassed to be a Mets fan?
  • Lastly, Omar, please don’t tease us with Roy Halladay if you’re not serious. I’m sure you must have an angle, but haven’t we been through enough?

Mets beat Nats 6-2 as We All Go Down the Rabbit Hole

We had to ask where do we go from here, didn’t we? We had to ask.

The night was an eventful one around the Mets, with the exception of the game which despite the win had a ho-hum air about it.

Let’s get to the juicy stuff first.

Prior to the game a report from SI’s Jon Heyman, as well as other sources, said that Jeff “ME & BUD BFFs” Wilpon gave manager Jerry Manuel and GM Omar Minaya a vote of confidence: the jobs are safe and they will not be fired. No word yet if this was a regular vote of confidence or the dreaded vote of confidence that is a sign of changes after the season…………..or is there?

Next, prior to the game Jerry Manuel denied the report, saying he never got such a call.

During the game, SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt reported that Manuel and Jon Heyman had conflicting stories cause the vote of confidence came two weeks ago, and Manuel thought they were asking if he heard anything today.

But for all those Minaya & Manuel Mashers don’t fret. NY Daily News’ Adam Rubin says the Wilpons view may have shifted and that Minaya’s extension “would not be an impediment to jettisoning the GM after the season.”

Time will tell about what type of vote of confidence it is. To paraphrase Brian Griffin, “This is why the Wilpons shouldn’t vote. Until after the season. Now whose leg do I have to hump to get a dry Martini.”

Seriously. We only just begun digging down this hole.

The next story, also from the same Rubin article, is about your favorite VP of Player Personnel and Willie Randolph’s, Tony Bernazard. Apparently, several scouts sat behind home plate, to you know do their jobs and the Diamondbacks scout sat in Tony’s seat. An underling suggested to Tony that they should wait between innings to move. Mr. Bernazard then launched into a profanity-laced tirade to this underling, an Ivy League graduate in front of all these scouts.

The real problem with the minors

The real problem with the minors

As someone who once went through a profanity-laced tirade in middle of a large trade show and was in no position to respond back, my sympathy goes out to the unnamed underling. If you’re reading this, trust me, in the end people will respect you more for keeping your cool than for trying to defend yourself against that type of verbal assault.

For what it’s worth, this morning on WFAN Craig Carton of Boomer & Carton said he had confirmation of this incident from his own sources.

BERNAZARD - CHANGE PLACES!

BERNAZARD - CHANGE PLACES!

If this is true, it’s an unacceptable act by someone in a high position in the Mets front office and should not be tolerated. It’s unprofessional and embarassing to the organization. There’s nothing embarassing about having a bad season. It happens. And teams make mistakes building winners. There is every reason to be embarassed about employing someone who cannot act in a professional manner. It should not matter if this is the first incident that the seat was lost, or the 100th. You chew someone out privately. There is no need to embarass someone publicly to get the message across.

For the record, the same thing is true for ballplayers. I am not among those happy to see a manager yell at a player in front of everyone for mistakes, even for not running out of the box. Take him out of the game, and do it privately in the clubhouse. It doesn’t matter how much money he makes, he still is a human being and should be treated with respect. If he’s disrespectful to the manager or another player out in public, then all bets are off.

So are you ready for the game recap?

Well, you have to sit through one more off the field story.

According to Jon Heyman, the Mets rejected a deal for Roy Halladay that would send to the Jays Fernando Martinez, Bobby Parnell, Ruben Tejada and Jon Niese. I repeat, he reported the Mets rejected this deal.

Now I like Jon Heyman, and find he’s more often reliable than not. But this report just seems like it’s missing something. Forget the fact that Omar would look like an idiot to reject it. J.P. Ricciardi, the Jays GM, would look like an even BIGGER idiot to accept it. I find it very hard to believe that the above deal would be the best he could get.

Apparently, this may be fake after all. Keith Law of ESPN tweeted that the above rumor is bogus according to several sources. Why am I not surprised?

By the way, I thought the farm was supposed to be barren? Yet here’s a deal for one of the game’s best pitchers, that many thought would be fair, that did not include 3 of the 4 top prospects Brad Holt, Jennry Meija, and Wilmer Flores. Just further proof not to let yourself fall to far into the anti-Mets rhetoric that will be permeating throughout the local media for the next year.

And now the game recap:

Livan gave up 2 runs and 5 hits in seven innings as he outsmarted the Zimmerman-less nats again. The Mets scored 5 runs against rookie JD Martin, Murphy and Francoeur hit, including the 1st Mets homer for Frenchy.

What? Did you really care about the game after all the other stories? Apparently just because the Mets are out of it doesn’t mean that the fun will stop. So lighten up as we go down the rabbit hole!

Where do we go from here?

Lets Go Mets Go!

On Saturday, the Mets took a one day break from the recurring nightmare and it seems that the only time we can count on that is once every five days. Without Johan, this team would be so far gone that they’d have a chance at the AAA title via falling out of the major leagues. Yesterday, I’m watching Fernando Nieve getting carted off the field in a glorified dump truck that looked like it was from 1959. The truck is rattling off the field and the camera is focused right on Fernando as his dazed head bounces back and forth. I just kept looking at that truck going further and further away and damned if it wasn’t microcosm of the whole season. Naturally, there was Jerry smiling as he’s walking back to the dugout. The icing on the cake was another steller performece by yours and my favorite…. Pete Falcone err…Randy Jones … no wait… Tim Redding.

Let’s all join together on this fine Monday morning for a nice round of “What the Hell?” What the hell is going on here? This is 1987 times 10. Rob Z pointed out that ESPN actually has Mets Injuries as a scrolling graphic now on their ticker. There are no words for something like this. Fred needs to get involved, figure out who needs to go (incuding his own kid if need be) and start making some buisness decisions here.

Say when!

So where do we go from here? Honestly, I believe more in what they shouldn’t do than what they should. There is nothing to sell off my fellow sad Met fans. The healthy vets aren’t worth what they’d bring back. I don’t want to trade Sheffield for some crap minor leaguer who’s be the 2011′s backup outfielder… I’d rather watch him hit for a couple more months. Same for Feliciano in the pen…we might need him down the road. Unless you’re going to fleece some team (see Mora for Mike Bordick, Issy for Billy Taylor), don’t start ripping things apart.

Omar, give me something to watch...

One thing I don’t get is why the team isn’t more focused on Roy Halladay. They have the prospects to get it done and more than enough money coming off the books next year. There’s simply not enough hitting talent on the roster or available next year to make a deep impact in the lineup, so why not go for the 1-2 punch? Just because they’re 8 games out right now, doesn’t mean you don’t improve. I know it would defiantly improve moral around here.

For what it’s worth, I do believe in miracles. I just would like to see a few players come back before I start believing in miracles at Citifield.

Singin’ In The Rain

As Gene stated below, the water is spinning in the toilet of a season we’re having and yesterday I missed my first game of the year. I’m jealous of all of you who got to enjoy yesterdays most recent embarrassing display. Umm… You Gotta Believe!?

For me, I went to Citifield because for a change, the Mets had no chance of losing. Paul McCartney christened the new ballpark with a killer show in the rain and I was there with my rain poncho to take it all in. By the way, Jeff & Fred are not only crappy baseball men, but also no fun as neither of them chose to show up (friends of mine took their tickets).

Maybe they were afraid to get within striking distance of a Mets fan??? Lucky for me, I made it through the infield without pulling a hammy (Met doctors might have me in a full body cast for 3 months) and settled at my seats. About 20 minutes before show time, I snuck into the seats I had been eyeing in the front for the 2 previous hours and away we went.

It was a cool experience… we had a very uncomfortable Susan Sarandon & her husband to our right, Pierce 007 Bronsnon getting harassed by several intoxicated ladies a row in back and my old rock fest buddy Sid Bernstein doing his thing nearby. For a middle aged cat, Macca can still rock. Along with the staple McCartney human juke box stuff he normally plays at shows…. he also pulled Day Tripper & a Day In A Life out of his ass. Very nice work! Check out my facebook page for more photos.1

METS PUMMELED IN ATL 11-0 on WALDO’s NIGHT and I’M BITTER (7/17/09)

maddorkNot for nothing, but enough is enough. I understand that Reyes dances and the Phillies piss themselves over it, but how many clubs have to take shots at the Mets before they just snap. As a fan, I am at that point. First, Hamels calls the Mets out as “chokers” and now of all people Greg Maddux – “Let’s beat the Mets tonight like the good old days” takes a swing at the Mets? Maddux couldn’t beat up my four year old niece, and he is talking shit? It’s funny, the Mets talked about the Dodgers in 1988 and that inspired them to kick the crap out of the Mets in the playoffs, yet the NL, for the last three years, has said way worse about the Mets and they just take it. Someone needs to get drilled in the neck – sorry, I’m just bitter at this point. I see the writing on the wall. As a fan I have never really rubbed it in the face of opponents, but I am reconsidering this position as I see the way that others have treated me.

So, let me get this straight, the Braves retire Waldo’s number (after the Cubs), while he gets his 300th win elsewhere. Glavine was also a mainstay, and he too had his 300th win somewhere else, only to be punked later by the Braves at the expense of Hansen. Smoltz, the trifecta, gets ignored at the end of his career, yet the Braves are a model organization that all these fools run back to? Hey Chipper, you are next bro! jones

bitterpillRegarding Omar and Jerry- fans are talking change, are you out of your minds? It’s not on them that 40 percent of the team is on the DL- I credit Omar for not hitting the Phillips’ panic button and trading away our chips. As I see it, and it is late enough to proclaim this, the season is over. Play it out, try to keep Wright healthy and move on. Beltran is not coming back anytime soon, Reyes is up in the air, and Delgado is middle August (at best). Deal with it folks, just one more thing we have to consider in the years to come, besides not holding a lead – will most of our guys be hurt (add Sheff to the list). BTW, as I have preached all season, we can thank the WBC for this!!!!!
