Carlos Delgado to Miss 10 Weeks; Season NOT in Jeopardy

Come back Soon. Sincerely, Jeremy Reed

Come back Soon. Sincerely, Jeremy Reed

Per Adam Rubin of the NY Daily News the Mets released a statement that Carlos Delgado will miss 10 weeks after undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery. He’s not expected to miss the season.

This will give the Mets a timetable to determine if the incumbents in house can handle 1b (Tatis has looked OK, Reed made a costly error yesterday on a play he admitted he never practiced.

This also forces Omar when looking for a replacement 1B for the next 10 weeks to 2 months that he doesn’t pick up one who is purely a 1B like Nick Johnson. Rather, he should pick up someone who could then be moved to another position. Aubrey Huff and Mark Derosa are two names that have been mentioned as possible candidates who fit that criteria. Huff can play the outfield at 3b, Derosa can play anywhere. Expect Mr. Doghouse Ryan Church to be included in any deal for a 1B or possibly an outfielder to give the lineup more stability.

  1. yeah right, ten weeks like Jose was out for one day. I expect him back —-NEVER. This kind of hope will cripple the Mets when they seek a first base replacement.
