Sometimes the Pitcher & Position Player of the Game is a tough call. Othertimes it’s blatantly obvious. This is the latter.

Game 7: Matt Harvey
Wow. On an off night he made the Phillies lineup, which still has some punch in it, look pedestrian. Two of his three hits were really the fault of his defense (Ike, get it together man). At some point the league should make an adjustment, but he seems to have the drive and determination to do it first, and not just assume his talent is going to get him through. It is getting harder and harder to temper expectations especially when you read these tweets from Curt Schilling and Dwight Gooden:
@gehrig38 Matt Harvey…. Wow @gehrig38 Matt Harvey WILL be in the verlander, Strasburg, kershaw, Felix discussion inside of 12 months
Game 3: John Buck
A small reason why Matt Harvey was successful tonight despite his lack of best stuff was Buck’s 3-Run Home Run in the second, providing a cushion for the wunderkind. Another might be Buck’s catching. He really is doing a great job working with each pitcher even when they do not have his best stuff. Thole and Nickeas just didn’t have the ability nor the respect to really help out in those situations. When Buck was included in the deal I thought it was a good throw in, but if he continues to hit and work with the team well it gives the Mets a lot more leeway in making sure d’Arnaud is ready.
And if you told me that Buck would have 3 PPotG before David Wright got on the scoreboard, I’d would have thought you were nuts.
