Game 17: Pitcher & Position Player of The Game: Gee, What the Buck!

Gee whiz, the Buck was up with that series win over Nats?

Game 14: Dillon Gee

This was neck and neck as of the writing of this post. Gee wasn’t smooth but he did give the team 5.2 of no run ball. He had 3 hits struck out six. He had slight problems in the first, cruised through the next four innings, and then hit the wall in the sixth. He was bailed out by a baserunning mistake/great defensive play from the catcher (more on that later) when Denard Span tried to reach second on a ball in the dirt. But three walks in one inning created a very dicey situation for one LaTroy Hawkins, who I cannot help but feel is being gypped. In the second most critical at bat of the game, Hawkins struck out Ian Desmond. But Gee was excellent until the sixth, so he gets the nod and the first win since his 2012 season was cut short since he had surgery on the artery in his shoulder.

Special mention to Lyon and Parnell who are proving to be the two stabilizing forces in the pen. It will be interesting to see how roles will develop once Frank Francisco returns. Obviously he has been Wally Pipp out of the closer role, with good reason: but is the 8th Lyon’s or Francisco’s domain?

Game 14: John Buck

Who would’ve thought the player to have the best April out of everyone in that fateful trade would be John Buck? Today he did it with his bat and glove. He called a great game for Gee and the pen, he threw out Ian Desmond in the critical 6th, and ANOTHER home run, his 7th, this time going 462 feet. What more can you say than the cliche “What the Buck?” Enjoy the ride, no matter how long or short it lasts. By the way, if you haven’t taken a close look at John Buck’s helmet, do so. It’s awesome.
