Game 20: Pitcher & Position Player of The Game: Ryu Hadouken’s Bats

Ryu and Dodgers relievers leave Mets KO, but is Hefner now a playboy?

Game 20: Jeremy Hefner

Let’s get this out of the way: Jeremy Hefner is a placeholder for Zack Wheeler. Every Mets fan knows this. However, the better Hefner pitches, the better it is for both Mets and Wheeler, since it allows them to take their time. Whether it be due to warmer weather or getting settled into a regular 5-day routine after the snowouts/relief appearances in Colorado, or just a good night, the Mets Playboy, Jeremy Hefner, was solid. 7 innings 3 hits, 3 walks, 1 HBP, 3 strikeouts, 1 earned run. Jeremy will probably be kicking himself for the next 4 days over that hit batter…..his run was instrumental in the Mets loss. If they had a lead, Collins/Warthen bullpen management for the 8th and 9th would have gone very differently.

Game 20: Reuben Tejada

This award could have gone to Ike Davis who drew the Mets to one run in the ninth, but Tejada did score a run and was on second with nobody out in the critical 8th inning. Unfortunately Wright, Duda, and Byrd could do nothing about it. Tejada also made several solid defensive plays behind Hefner and was in middle of 2 double plays. While Ike’s homer was big, he did come empty in other important spots.
