Games 24: Pitcher & Position Player of The Game: 15 Innings for That?

So the one night the bullpen performs excellently, the Manager, defense (baxter), offense fails them. Yuck. But let’s find the positives in the:

Game 24: Matt Harvey

The bullpen did very well, but no single pitcher really stood out. As for Harvey, he was impressive but not in his typical way. He struggled locating his fastball all night, but still managed to hold the Marlins to one run and threw 124 pitches to complete the 6 innings. It wasn’t pretty, and the Marlins aren’t exactly a Murderer’s Row, but it’s good to see Harvey finding a way without his best stuff. Also, the Doc Gooden K counter on twitter was nice.

Game 24: Reuben Tejada

I was about to type John Buck when I had a change of heart. While Buck’s HR was big and set up the Mets lead in the ninth, it was Buck’s only contribution in 15 innings. He K’d three times, and had opportunities to drive in players over the course of the game. Tejada however had three hits over the course of the game, including the go-ahead RBI in the 15th, and made multiple contributions defensively. He was involved in all 5 double plays Mets induced, and made an incredible diving catch late in the game.
