Games 32-34: Pitcher & Position Player of The Game: Pirates Plunder Mets Booty

Pirates sweep makes us all want to go Argh!:

Game 32: Scott Atchinson

It came after Marcum, who looks more and more like someone who should have actually had – you know – a spring training or a rehab assigment, gave up 6 runs in 4.1. But Atchinson provided two scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th to at least give the Mets offense a chance to come back. As you’ll see below, a laughable gesture.

Game 33: LaTroy Hawkins

Why did I have to make a self-appointed rule that EVERY GAME must have a designated pitcher and position player? Sigh. LaTroy was the best of the worst. Yes, he gave up a run on 4 hits in 2 innings. The other choices were Niese who gave up 8, Atchinson who gave up a run in less than an inning, and Robert Carson who gave up a run in two innings when they were already down by 10. LaSigh

Game 34: Matt Harvey

This was a different type of impressive start from Harvey, in that it was the first time you saw him struggle significantly in the middle innings and then as each inning went by he became more and more himself. It’s funny to say struggling cause his line: 7IP, 5 hits, 2 ER, 5 Ks would be considered dominant for everyone else on the staff, and most of baseball. That’s just hot good he’s been. Unfortunately, not good enough.

Game 29: Anthony Recker

Why am I giving it to Recker when Valdespin also hit a home run? Mainly because he wasn’t self-centered enough to showboat a HR when they’re far behind. I like emotion and swagger but the timing was out of place.

Game 30: Andrew Brown

Mets scored only two runs. Andrew Brown hit a Home Run. Congrats Andrew, here’s a very minor accolade.

Game 31: Lucas Duda

Mets scored only two runs. Again. Duda smashed puny baseball. Easy decision. Unless your name is David Wright or Lucas Duda, you’re not hitting consistently for the last month.
