Games 45-47: Pitcher & Position Player of The Game: Mets avoid Braves Sweep

Mets don’t seem to like home cooking……

Game 45: Jeremy Hefner

Hefner is not great. But he’s really making a bid to not be ousted when Wheeler is called up (watch your back Gee or you may be Trachsel’ed). Hefner gets a no decision with a 6 innings, 2 earned runs, 7 K performance. If he could just get into the seventh more often maybe he will finally get that W.

The Mets pen ineffectiveness with exception of Lyon dooms them, capped off by Lyon’s 2-run tenth.

Game 46: Greg Burke

Apparently Gee did not hear me mention the possibility of being Trachsel’ed: 5 ER in 5 innings. Again the damage coming all in the 5th. It’s been the same story all season with Gee…..burnout in the middle innings. You have to wonder if the shoulder surgery is effecting his stamina.

Burke pitched 1.2 innings scoreless with 3 Ks to give the pen a rest.

Game 47: Shaun Marcum

Marcum was awesome in the nationally spotlighted game. 7 IP 2 ER and a career high 12 strikeouts.  Keep in mind this is a guy who doesn’t really go beyond 90mph, the strikeouts were all about location and knowing the hitters tendencies. He took advantage of Atlanta’s free swinging lineup. His only mistake was a 2-run home run from Dan Uggla. However……sorry Shaun but this is the 2013 Mets. You get a ND and still are winless.

Game 45: Daniel Murphy

Another three hit game for #28 with 2 runs and an RBI. Buck also helped with a HR in the 7-5 ten inning loss. Can’t blame O on this one.

Game 46: Reuben Tejada

Tejada had three hits but never really went anywhere in the 6-0 loss. Can blame the O on this one.

Game 47: Ike Davis

With a demotion potentially forthcoming Ike Davis, Ike had arguably his best game of the season going 2-3, 2 singles, 2 RBIs, a walk and no assumptions in the field. His game winning hit in the 8th inning was a great relief to him and to a team that DESPERATELY needed a win on the homestand. But could they keep the momentum……?
