Games 49: Pitcher & Position Player of The Game: Mo’s Not Wright

Harvey keeps on Moing down the competition, while Wright, Murphy, and Duda give Rivera a farewell present.

Game 49: Matt Harvey

The one problem with a team winning in the bottom of the ninth is that it screws a Starting Pitcher’s chance at a win. Harvey was a Byrd error away from a shutout: 8 innings, 6 hits, 1 ER, 10Ks, ZERO walks. I know this wasn’t Murderer’s Row Yankees, but still impressive nonetheless.

Apparently though he’s an idiot for throwing a slider to strikeout to Lyle Overbay. Oh Daily News, you’re so………..annoying.

And if “everyone” said this, why are you the only quote I can find?

Game 45: Daniel Murphy  Lucas Duda David Wright

3 guys with two hit games. All three contributed to Mo Rivera’s first blown save without an out.

Do I give it to Murphy, who got the leadoff double and perhaps earned a spot on Dancing with the Stars with his dance move to avoid Wright’s hit?

Do I give it to Duda, who went with the Rivera offering to the opposite field to drive in the winning run?

As worthy as both candidates are, I am giving it to Wright for one simple reason: It is my opinion that driving in the run to TIE the game and avoid the loss is a more pressure spot than leading off the inning or having to drive in the winning run. The leadoff man, if he gets an out, is just like the rest of the team that day. Duda’s situation while pressured, is not as essential since if he fails they at least won’t lose. Wright though needed to drive Murphy in, cause if he gets an out there, a Duda double play ends the game. The pressure is high.

Hey, this is the first time this year that the Mets two superheroes, Captain America and The Dark Knight, are the Pitcher & Position Players of the Game!
