Games 51: Pitcher & Position Player of The Game: Brooms are out in the Bronx!

Mets complete first season series sweep of Yankees. Gee Whiz.

Game 50: Dillon Gee

Aside from the opener Gee’s 2013 has been pretty bad. Terry Collins admitted after the game that he was in danger of demotion if he didn’t improve, and Gee responded with his best effort of the season. He pitched 7.1 innings allowing four hits and just one run – a solo Home Run to Robinson Cano – and a career high 12 strikeouts. Gee also continued the Starting Pitchers mastery of the strikezone by issuing no walks. He could have gone deeper, throwing just 88 pitches, but Terry Collins removed him in the 8th because he wanted Gee to end on a high note and the Yankees were sending up two lefties. Cause you know Scott Rice has to pitch daily.

Mets starting pitchers allowed just 1 walk in the entire four game series vs the Yankees with an era about 2.00. On a team with a struggling offense that is how they have to win.

Game 51: Marlon Byrd

Yankee pitcher Vidal “Mr Shampoo” Nuno kept the Mets bats in check but Byrd staked the Mets an early 2-0 lead in the second with a towering home run to the second deck of Yankee stadium. Unlike the night before, this home run was not cheap.
