Games 58: Pitcher & Position Player of The Game: Miami Sweep Dooms Ike & Friends

The final straw for Sandy.

Game 58: Jon Niese

This was a Harvey Day start. So what is Shaun Marcum doing up there in Bold? Well, it has nothing to do with Harvey. He once again excelled:

Not the best of performances but it was serviceable. Niese allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, in six and a third. The Mets lost 8-4. So that 5 had to come from someone in 2.1 innings….

…well multiple someones. Maybe it was the drain from the night before but Marlins didn’t use that excuse. Rice didn’t record an out as he gave up his first home run to a lefty this season. Bobby Parnell gave up 3 runs, 2 earned, although some of those runs were given up by Robert Carson, who gave up a two run home run to Miguel Olivo. Carson would be sent to AAA Las Vegas after the game for Josh Edgin. But he wouldn’t be alone on the plane….

Game 58: David Wright

Normally I’d give it to Murphy, who was 2-3 with a run and two RBIs, but he gave up the go ahead run in the 10th on an error. Instead it will go to Wright, who was 1-4 with 2 RBIs and no errors.

As you can see, aside from Wright and Murphy the offense was ineffective again. Ike Davis and somewhat surprisingly Mike Baxter were sent down to get them out of their slumps, hopefully. Baxter also may be given bunting lessons as he failed to drop one down in a critical spot. Taking their place is Colin Cowgill and Josh Satin. This is after the Mets earlier in the weekend demoted Colin Mchugh for David Aardsma and designated Rick Ankiel for assignment to call up Niuwenhuis. We are likely to see more Kirk and Lagares in the outfield, and unfortunately potentially more Daniel Murphy at 1b so we can see more of Jordanny Valdespin. Cause after moving Murphy across the baseball diamond all of his career and getting used to 2B, we cannot see one full season of him playing in one position with a sense of comfort. (As you might imagine, I’m not a fan of the idea).
