Games 59: Pitcher & Position Player of The Game: If at Murph you Dont Succeed….

…..Keep plugging away at it cause you set a plan, and you can’t back out cause of a first bad day.

Game 59: Jeremy Hefner

It’s difficult to judge who should be a pitcher of the game on the day the Mets defense gives up 7 unearned runs. On one hand, that’s unfair to all the pitchers, on the other, the pitchers have to make pitches after the errors, and oftentimes error occurs on hard hit balls, like the one that Murphy flubbed resulting in a five-run fifth (including a Wright bobble that should have been a doubple play, and a Hefner allowing 3-run bomb). Hefner wasn’t strong but he deserved a better fate. At this point though, I think Gee’s latest surge will result in Hefner losing his spot to Wheeler.

Game 59: Omar Quintanilla

It was actually quite easy to find a player of the day for the 9-2 loss to Cardinals:

First, I check who didnt have an error or a misplay this game (Murphy, Kirk, Wright eliminated).

Then I check to see who did not provide anything offensively (Duda, Byrd, Turner, Lagares eliminated).

Then who got hits but failed to score or drive in a run (Valdespin, Buck eliminated).

The winner is Omar Quintanilla, who didn’t have a defensive miscue and homered in the first inning. Quintanilla has played 9 games with the Mets this season and has half (2) as many Player of the Game to Reuben Tejada (4).
